Samantha Lee, family lawyer and head of Swain & Co Family Mediation Service, says, “It is always a sad time when a marriage comes to an end, but family mediation is a way of conducting divorce in a way that can make the situation less distressing for you and your family.”

Family mediation involves you and your ex-partner meeting with one mediator in a to discuss divorce issues, such as children and financial matters in a bid to reach amicable agreements.

The mediator will work with the best interests of your whole family at the heart of discussions.

Family mediation is a way to avoid court which can become combative and cause would be amicable negotiations to become arguments.

The responsibility to make decisions for you and your family will remain with you and your ex-partner, rather than the court.
