A19 is a youth group that supports children and young people from the age of 9-16 who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence or abuse.
A19 meets every week on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30. The group operates from The Original Place in Leigh Park and is run by experienced staff offering skilled support.
A19 offers support, fun and the chance for young people to socialise with others who have had the same experience. A19 helps to build confidence and gives young people the opportunities to talk and express the way in which they are feeling in a safe and secure environment.
A19 offers a range of activities from arts and crafts to table-tennis and pool to team building exercises. We also have regular workshops, which include interactive music, drama, magic and circus skills sessions. We offer a range of drinks and snacks to the children who attend. Those who attend A19 know that they are able to talk to a member of SDAS staff about any concerns or worries they may have.
During the summer they hope to arrange some Summer Trips and activities from picnics and games in the park to a trip to Thorpe Park.
Nicola Whitley, a family Solicitor specialising in domestic abuse at Swain & Co says, “We work very closely with Southern Domestic Abuse Service and we wanted to raise some money to support A19 and help raise awareness of the amazing service they provide for children and young people in the area. We ran a raffle for staff with the prize of ½ a day of annual leave and managed to raise £100 for A19.”
