The reasons why the highest rates of divorce are all in areas by the sea is unclear, however it has been suggested that often seaside towns are areas of high deprivation. Often money issues are cited as reasons for divorce, rather than infidelity or other reasons. Another potential explanation is that divorce among the 50-64 age group has seen the largest increase in divorce rates, and often older couples look to retire to seaside towns, such as Worthing.
Mary-Anne Beedle, Family Solicitor at Swain & Co Solicitors, says, “Whilst we can analyse the statistics behind divorce rates, it does not make the process for couples and families facing divorce any easier. There will be many questions and uncertainties.”
