It is little surprise that since the legal aid cuts to family law and divorce, there has been a surge in the number of people carrying out DIY divorces.

Therefore, it is of no surprise that in fact the legal aid cuts to family law have perhaps led to more, rather than less, family disputes ending up in court as people cannot access legal aid, nor feel they can afford a family lawyer.

The vast majority of those who do use family lawyers to settle issues arising from divorce, such as children and financial matters, do so without having to go near a court. The family lawyers talk to one another and settle matters.

But, of course not everyone can afford a family lawyer to run their case. Therefore, Swain & Co have developed a fixed price system for those that are facing DIY divorce, plus for the more complex matters of children and finances we have a fixed price system so you can pay for the advice you want – read more here.

Samantha Lee, head of family law at Swain & Co says, “We understand that there is a growing need for people to be able to access certain areas of legal advice whilst conducting their DIY divorce, that is why we have developed a fixed price system so you only pay for the advice you need. Plus, the fixed costs help with budgeting.”
